Java Weekly #14: Java EE 8, JavaOne, story writing and more...

The Java world is evolving at a rapid pace and it can be challenging to keep track of it. Fortunately lots of great resources are created every week, explaining new features or looking at existing stuff from a different angle.

I am using the Java Weekly series to collect the most interesting links I found during the last week and present them to you all in one place. I hope you find it useful and that it makes it easier for you to keep up-to-date. If you like to suggest a resource or something I can improve on, please leave me a comment.

Java EE

Several expert groups have started their work on Java EE 8 related specifications. Arun Gupta gives an overview about the 8 different JSRs, the current schedule and the next steps on the way to Java EE 8: Java EE 8 is Kicking Off.

JCP

The JCP celebrated its 15th birthday and the winners of the 10th JCP awards. Congratulations to all of them!

JavaOne

As you all know, the JavaOne 2014 took place last week. For me, it was nearly impossible to miss. There was an abnormal silence on twitter for several hours, followed by hours with tons of JavaOne related tweets.

This and that

The usage of value objects is an often discussed topic. There are lots of arguments for and against it. Steve Wedig describes his view and explains how and when to use them in his extensive article about value objects.

Mike Cohn describes in 4 Reasons to Include Developers in Story Writing why he thinks that developers should take part in these workshops. I completely agree with all 4 of his reasons. The main reason for me is, that the development team needs to understand which problems the customer wants to solve with the software.
